International Concept for Education

ICE distinctive features

A multilingual education

ICE offers a true multilingual education through which students in each language stream get most of their lessons in one language (French or English). An important part of their lessons takes place in the second language (English or French), and Arabic is also taught.

An individual education plan is prepared for each child according to the following stages

  • First stage: registration

Parents are informed of the aims, the rules and the way of operating of the school. The child meets the school鈥檚 psychologist and is tested. After the application form has been accepted by the Head of the school, the child joins his/her class.

  • Second stage: observations, talent identification, preparation of an individual education plan

During his/her first weeks in class, each child is observed by the teacher and the school team. In close connection with the school鈥檚 psychologist, his/her potential, talents, his/her possible specific needs are assessed and mentioned in an individual education plan that is prepared by the school and presented to the parents. That plan is the basis of the Parents-teacher relations; it is implemented and revised jointly by them.

Special Talents Enhancement Periods (STEPS)

The STEPS system consists in extracting the child from the class at certain periods and placing him/her in small groups with a specialized teacher, thus contributing to an individualized education. The duration and contents of the STEP sessions vary. They aim at enhancing the child鈥檚 skills and /or manage challenges. Some talents identified and cultivated by the STEPS system can only be expressed through a greater involvement of the student. From there the 鈥淭alent Development Courses鈥?is established. Some talents may also be enhanced during extra-curricular activities like sports, arts, astronomy, music, dance, etc.

Towards excellence in education

ICE has a protocol called 鈥渆tiquette鈥?that governs the ethics and behaviour of everyone in the school community: students, teachers and members of staff. This means applying the highest standards of social life.
It is also the reason that justifies the wearing of a uniform within the school and in circumstances when the school is presenting itself to the outside world.
ICE鈥檚 fundamental goal is to contribute to the success of its pupils at the academic and personal levels. ICE regards the respect of others as being as important as academic success.
The etiquette of ICE specifies the principles and rules of behavior and interactions at the school. It appears in the one admission contract signed following the inscription of a pupil.

ICE鈥檚 values are shared by the school鈥檚 founders, its management and its staff.
Mutual trust, rigor and the capacity to listen to others are the basis of the relationship between the school, the pupils and the parents.
ICE鈥檚 etiquette governs the ethics and behavior of every person in the school; it aims at establishing the highest standards of social life.
ICE鈥檚 fundamental value is the respect for every individual as a human being, whatever his origin, his culture, his religion or his philosophy.

Social skills

ICE teaches social skills that facilitate interpersonal relations and contribute to creating a social harmony.

ICE gives its students a sense of solidarity with all human beings based on compassion and altruism. Community service, humanitarian projects will be organized. Some will be financed through the ICE Foundation.

Academic work

A steady academic work is at the core of our school. The pupils are placed in learning situations in which they give their best efforts.

The French education system is based on rigor, discipline and method. It implies steady school work, which is monitored and evaluated regularly and builds the child鈥檚 knowledge.
ICE insists on awakening the child鈥檚 mind to the world and helping him acquire the largest personal culture.

ICE requires perfect attendance and punctuality on behalf of the pupils and their parents. If pupils are absent, they will be located and the parents will be alerted by telephone.
All pupils and staff must be present for the national anthems in the morning.
A morning meeting of all the members of the school community is then organized by the superintendent. In these meetings, problems faced in daily school life are tackled, as well as ethical issues in the school and community service issues.

Religion et Ethics

All Muslim pupils will be taught the Islamic religion. Non-Muslim pupils will be taught ethical principles allowing them to perceive similarities and differences between them and the others, thus learning to respect other cultures.

A high quality education

An exceptional environment

ICE is located on an exceptional site that allows its pupils to practise a large number of activities, especially arts and sports. A number of extra-curricular activities are offered for the personal development of children.
Spacious classes: each class is about 90 m2 in size and accommodates a maximum of 20 pupils. State of the art teaching equipment, especially audio and digital equipment.

Numerous staff

A numerous professional staff to teach, coach, attend and monitor the children.

A regular quality follow-up

In each field, the school will offer a top quality follow-up and monitoring.

A complete education

Coaching and well beeing

It consists in offering a holistic educational approach that teaches the child what is good for his body and his health, mixing a regular follow-up of his physical and physiological balance. It ensures regular monitoring of the child鈥檚 physical equilibrium. Monitoring the health, hygiene and well-being of each student is done by a coach, who works full-time for the school and who collaborates with the school nurse, the physician and the P.E. teachers.
As soon as children enter the school grounds their safety and security is one of most important priorities.

A hygiene and security board meets regularly. It studies all the questions relating to this field, in particular fire drills and the accident prevention policy.

It also proposes strategies designed to prevent violence and to promote positive relationships including: programs on conflict resolution, peer support, anti-racism programs, anti-discrimination and harassment programs, student leadership and mediation training programs.

Healthy food

All the pupils have their lunch at the school.
The school provides pupils with their meals. The menus are developed by The Meydan Hotel staff, in accordance with regulations set by the Hygiene and Security Commission of the school. The superintendent, the health officer and the school doctor sign the menus which are published on the school website. Food education is one of the school's teaching programs.

Artistic activities are among the priorities of ICE: they develop the child鈥檚 sensitivity, taste, creativity and self-expression. Arts are taught during regular lessons in the STEPs sessions and in certain extracurricular activities (dance, music, fine arts, etc.)

Sport is essential to a high quality education. Sport develops physical aptitudes and moral virtues (endurance, capacity to surpass oneself) and also social virtues (team spirit, respect of the rules). At ICE, pupils will practice all sorts of sports.

Children with special needs

Children with special needs may be admitted at the school: their case is examined individually by a commission including the Director, the physician, the nurse and the teacher. A special personal education plan is organized for each child with special needs who has been accepted and his progress is regularly monitored.
